Great News for Customers of Williams Brothers Model Products!

2010- this is the 50th anniversary of the Williams Brothers product line, whose company was founded in 1960!!  We continue our efforts to bring the 18 model aircraft kits, and 4 detailed engine kits, back to production. We hope to accomplish that by April this year if all goes to plan. From there, we have some new products we're working on and hope to see this year as well.
We sure do appreciate all of those who stuck by us in the early days of our entry to this product line, and we are happy to be able to supply our customers with the products they need.  We continue to work hard and strive to keep this product line alive and well and Made in the USA.

01/07/2010-General News!!
We welcome Kavan GmbH on board this year as a major distributor serving Germany and Austria. If you are a dealer in that area, you will soon be able to order our products from Kavan to supply your store!

NEW NEWS FOR R/C ITEMS!!!!!!!!!
01/07/10-  The major portion of  R/C accessories are in production. All wheels, pilots, aero guns, and almost all cylinders are runninig well, and inventory is building. Those items are considered fully released, and available. We continue to meet our commits and deliver. During the very slow summer of '09, we continued to produce and build inventory and the sudden burst of sales in Fall was met successfully, with no back orders, so we did well. Sales were actually much better than expected, and we got hit pretty hard in some areas and our inventory is a bit low in some areas now, but we have new projections for 2010, and will be running hard up through March to get back into a comfortable position on inventory.  This works to plan as we produce for the year, with lower inventory planned for January to keep those inventory taxes low.
We do have a few projects in the works for some new products, such as aero guns and wheels, so stayed tuned for developments!

Over the Christmas break we did some serious calculations on the product lines, to insure we're on track for costs, and you will see some adjustments. Some of them are slight increases (economy finally caught up), while others actually decreased. Those who have interest in our larger dummy radials will be happy as they have taken a dive on price, which is due in great part to the efforts we made to improve how those molds function and the very significant reduction in scrap parts produced due to those improvements.  A good running mold saves a lot in machine and labor time! And we continue to invest in a constant grooming of the molds- but, it's a big effort as we have over 250 molds, and they all need a little TLC; so, it takes time.

The 1/8, J-5 cylinder is still in need of another tweek to perfect it, but we hope to see that done by February. Then we'll see if the mold is good for high production, and get it going again. It's about the only cylinder item we still have very limited production on, and they are not quite perfected yet.  That poor old mold has been through a lot over the last 4 years! Once we have it running and producing well, that will also lead to the reissue of the J-5 detailed engine kit.

<>MORE GREAT NEWS FOR MODEL KITS!!!

01/07/2010-

C-46 Commado! is gone! the Standard C-46 Commando! is now out of stock for us. There are a few out there in dealer land, but you'll have to do some digging around. For those who like model history, we produced 1690 standard kits, along with the 300 collector's version, and the first kit was boxed and shipped on July 18, 2007.  We won't be back in production on that kit until maybe June or July this year, primarily, because we'd like to do more updates to the box art and decals to improve it some more, and our current goal is the get all the other kits worked back into production first.  We're also looking at more mold tweeks as well, based on modeler comments and reviews.

The Lost Electra is Available!! <picture>
The Model 10 Electra has been getting several requests since the news of the lastet 'Amelia' move came out (we had factory 'hookie' day to go see it- very good film for aviation lovers). In response, we pulled in the reissue project to get it out as soon as we could, but not without the upgrades we wanted to do. We've added two more schemes for airlines, for a total of 5 schemes on the decal sheet now. And, in the spirit of one of the most famous users of the aircraft, we're also including an original, U.S. issue, 1963 commemerative air mail stamp of Amelia Earhart with her Electra, which makes this kit definitly a limit run!!! This makes a great historical combination with the PCA-2 Autogiro.

PCA-2 Autogiro reissued!!!! <picture>
Our latest release just started to get boxed up today, and will begin shipping out next week. A new twist on the kit is that it is actually 2 kits now, and has decals to support about 6 versions of the machine. We wrapped in the Detroit News markings, and added new markings for the colorful autogiros flown for Beech-Nut Gum by Amelia Earhart and Frank Faulkner. It's actually quite amazing how many companies utilized this unusual aircraft for promotional value during the Great Depression!! Do some seaches on it, and you'll see it's quite an extensive history!

Wedell Williams comes in First!! <picture>
The Wedell Williams will kick off our line of race planes as they come back to production! I must say, I'm learning quite a bit of these planes as I put them through the reissue process, and I can see why the original Williams brothers felt they needed to be models. This is another interesting and impressive aircraft with a rich history of how a gun runnin' flyboy meets up with a man with capital, and goes on to design one of the most superior race planes of the ealry 30's!!
Available now!

11/9/09-
World Flight of 1924 set released!! <picture>
The next item in line is truely a unique set of models, and we are going the distance to keep Aviation history alive with this one. The World Flight is more than just one airplane's story, it's the story of a Flight and the men who flew them. So, in honor of the event, we made it a set of all 4 aircraft so you can build the whole flight! And, considering so many little changes occurred in scheme, we opted to include decals to support building the planes either from the day they left, to the day they completed, or ended, their flight, including the option for Boston II. After reading all the stories and text on the whole affair, we felt printed text on a page of instructions just wasn't enough to deliver the impact of what these men and aircraft accomplished, so we worked a deal with A&E's History Channel, and the set will now also include a Bonus 70 minute DVD to tell the whole story; thus, making this an educational, as well as challenging set of models!!

80hp LeRhone Engine kit reissued!! picture
The new 30260, 1/6 scale, 80hp LeRhone plastic model engine kit  boasts a new, and great looking box, along with updated instructions. The kit does come with a display stand, and is designed to be built with the ability to be rotated, as per the original, to demonstrate the unique attributes of a true rotary engine! (yes, the crankcase and cylinders would spin with the propeller, while the crankshaft stood still!!)  I find this kit to be a good compliment to any model of a rotary engined aircraft, as it provides a nice, large, 3-dimensional, 'zoom in' view of the rotary powerplant that was so common in the early days of aviation. (kit contains parts for one model engine- all the other great looking stuff in the photo is the artist's rendition, so NO prop stub with hardware, flags, ammo belt, goggles, gage, medal, old photo, etc) Subject to limited production.

C-46 Collector's Series, the 1 of 300               Celebrate the Return of WmBros!

If you like to collect, we created a special edition just for you!!                                     There are only 300 of these special production kits in existence. The major plastic parts are molded in a custom shade of blue, and the kits contains a serial numbered and signed certificate with Gold seal, as well as a personally signed, and matching numbered, print of the complete box art (with additional background action!) by aviaition artist Robert Karr. The standard box also is stamped with serial number and also has the embossed Gold Seal affixed. Numbers 1 thru 10 are reserved (or gone), but several are still available. We can't assure specific numbers, but we'll try to meet your request if we can.

Check out Robert Karr's site to see the kit lay out! (Thanks Robert!) http://www.karrart.com/karrart/2dpub1/boxtops.htm

The aim is two fold for these kits- 1) to please the collector with a truely limited production item of a unique aicraft that is sure to appreciate 2) to help bring Williams Brothers 'over the hump' and generate the funding required to restore the molds and also in invest in a newer mold of another fine aircraft type.  We figured this would be a creative way for our small company to celebrate the return of these products to production! Price for these kits is $64.95 each.  The Special Part Number is 0055-72546-C01 (not printed on the box) Of course, if you like to build, then the standard kit is the way to go.                                                                                             One thing we learned with this kit, and our other products, is that our ability to do direct sales is a bit weak compared to the normal distribution network. So, we are going to open up on the Collector's kit to the dealer network and see if we can move them out into the world where they belong!

Pratt & Whitney Wasp
01/07/10- We are now very close on the reissue of the detailed Wasp engine kit. Artwork is in hand, and the box and decal designs are almost complete and ready to order. The molds are all ready to go. The new part number will be 0040-30710, and we really hope to see it ready to ship by the end of January. As an addition to the original kit, we are also including a display stand for the model, which has the options of being a wall mount display, or desktop display.

The F9C Sparrowhawk is Released!!<pic>
01/07/10- The F9C Sparrowhawk #32590 started to ship right about the end of July' 08, and production is almost complete now, for the run.  Again, for reference- I noted some unexpected interest in the Sparrowhawk before we even got started with the 2 issue, build article in SkyModel (13 & 14) which was a wonderful write up on 'how to'.  And the release of #79 in the Naval Fighter Series of booklets, with a weath of good history and information on the aircraft. It was a happy day to see the WmBros kits still holding an interest in the model world.  We revised the decals slightly to correct colors, and improved where we could. Check your favorite dealers!

NOTE: of interest to aviation lovers- if you see the animated movie "UP", you get to see Sparrowhawk fighters launched from a dirigible for attack!!!! I fiind it interesting to see a twist, in that the hero has a boyhood love for lighter-than-air ships, and that such a concept would finally be used in a movie.

Production Note: we put out about 250 kits with the original style, die cut windshield, which was located in it's own pocket within the decal bag. During this time, we had a break-thru on how to make them better using a CNC type machine, and quickly changed over. (Boy, I am glad to get away from the die cutting process). So now, the new windshield is more accurate, and much more precise! Thanks to customers letting us know they had issues in finding the windshield, we pack them the same way, but now put a lable on the pocket that says "windshield" to help the modeler locate it. (a clear part in a clear bag is hard to notice). If you see that label, it's the new windshield for sure. Also, the instruction sheet is now revision -04 and has a full size drawing of the new windshield with fold lines indicated.

09/18/2009- More Sparrowhawk information!
The Austin Scale Moderl Scociety held their annual show on Satruday, 09/27, and we did attend with a booth this year. For those that missed it, it was a pretty nice show. For our part, and in sprit of the newly released Sparrowhawk, I had a hi-res photo of the U.S.S. Macon, side view, blown up to 1/32 scale and mounted it on the wall behind our booth- the roll was 25 feet long, and 6 feet tall!!! To let you know how big it ended up. Roughtly 24.5' for scale. It sure put the Sparrowhawk in perspective!!
Also, for those who read this, I still have a few of the DVDs by Atlantis Productions titled "The Flying Carriers". If you ever wanted the see a good overview of the full history of the Akron and Macon, and how they were built, and lots of details of their operations and interior, along with the Sparrowhawk use- this is the one to get!! Regualrly $35, but I made a little trade deal with them and got several  to go with our Sparrowhawks during the show.. For those who would like a DVD, in the 'no thrills' package, they are $25. If you buy it in combo with Sparrowhawk kit, then it's only $19 for the DVD.- $47.95 total for both kit and DVD..
And again, this deal is limited to the DVDs I have on hand.

The P-35 Seversky! is Released!!<picture>
01/07/10- The P-35 Seversky! #32535 is now available once again! Now this, is a great aircraft to look into. I do enjoy doing the research along the way of the re-release process, and I can see why the Williams made this particular aircraft. Lots of history behind them when you start digging. I would recommned this website I found, if you'd like to get a very good overview of Seversky and the P-35 development and history>>
http://aerostories.free.fr/severskyP35/page8.html

We added more to the decal sheet so it includes the 17th and 94th Pursuit squadron markings, and Swedish markings, as well as color updates and 'clean up' of artwork. If your a P-47 fan, you need to have the forerunner that blazed the trail, and inspired the people of America during the Great Depression!
And, if you want to see the racing S-2 version in action, check out the old Clark Gable movie "Test Pilot".

the B-10 bomber and other news.....

01/07/10-

But what happened to the B-10? Well, I do like to read reviews, and after seeing some input on the kit, and having finally made some test parts to fit up, I found a couple of areas that could use some improvement. So, it's back to the mold maker to tweak it. If the fixes do anything at all, it will target better fits and reducing the amount of 'shaving' time with the razor knife. It will still present some challenge, but after building it and examining the issues, I think we can take some of the pain out. It was quite a challenge for the original Williams brothers to even make the mold, I'm sure. But, after seeing some well done examples of the original production kits, I'm sure we'll see more of them when we begin production.

What's next? The next pair of kits coming up will be the Gee Bee R-1 and Hall's Springfield Bulldog. Those will be followed by the Gee Bee Z, and the Schoenfeldt Firecracker, and then the Caudron Racer and Laird Super Solution. Beyond that, it's fuzzy, but the 247 Airliner, Gamma, Flivver, and Corben Super Ace will be all that is left for aircraft kits. Somewhere in between, we'll also see the 1/8 scale P&W Wasp and 1/8 LeRhone engine kits. The 1/8 J-5 engine is also hanging out there too. Things can change around, but that is the outlook for the moment.

HO Railroad News!

In the midst of everything else, a complete review of the HO automobile molds was done, and they are now in the works to get them adapted to our machines. Artwork for the new tags is complete and as soon as the molds get reworked, we will be putting the cars back into production- hopefully that will start up in January. You'll see a little more imagination in the titles of these vehicles, as the Trademark talks for name brands did not go so well. They want to much, and we make too little on these products.
We will be looking at the 3 HO scale aircraft, and working to bring them back to life as well. After that, then we review all the molds for the 3 HO scale structures. If all goes well, we'll see all of those products back out this year!!
